The biggest deals in Switzerland have one thing in common

Breadth, depth, focus and reassuring dependability. These enduring qualities have put us at the heart of some of the biggest deals in recent Swiss business history. Every project is led by an experienced partner. And, alongside their expertise, we bring an innovative edge and pragmatic mindset – solving problems and opening up opportunities.

While legal systems may operate within national borders, global business is breaking down barriers. So, as well as being specialists in Swiss business law, we also partner with leading firms worldwide. It means we can offer our clients the very best advice and representation – whether inside or outside Switzerland – including the many foreign clients who choose to live and work here. This extends to keeping a very close eye on the EU legislation implications for companies based throughout the country.

Our lawyers don't just encompass the globe, they also span generations. Together, we build relationships for the long term and conduct business Swiss-style in a way that proves that consensus, humility and restraint often offer the smartest route to the quickest results.

Our journey

1917

Conrad Staehelin founds law firm Staehelin in Zurich, which later becomes Staehelin, Hafter, Jagmetti, Lutz & Partners.

1945

Conrad’s son Willy positions Switzerland as a post-war foreign investment hub, gaining the interest of American investors in Zurich.

1951

Raoul Lenz establishes a new firm Lenz in Geneva. Nine years later, partners Schluep, Briner and De Coulon join the business.

1965

The 1960s sees both firms expand. Gaining a broader, more international clientele, they continue to grow in scale and reputation.

1989

By the late 1980s, the Geneva firm is keen to create a nationwide presence opening talks with Staehelin, Hafter, Jagmetti, Lutz & Partners.

1991

The two firms confirm they are a natural match, merging swiftly. Lenz & Staehelin is born on 1st January 1991.

Since then...

Lenz & Staehelin continues to grow, remaining one of Switzerland’s largest independent law firms.
