Rio Tinto to sell Alcan Composites to Schweiter Technologies

On September 22nd, 2009, the Anglo-Australian mining group Rio Tinto entered into an agreement with Swiss machinery producer Schweiter Technologies AG to sell the Alcan Composites business for USD 349 million. The transaction is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Lenz & Staehelin advised Rio Tinto on Swiss law aspects concerning the sale of the Swiss entities of the Alcan Composites business, i.e., Alcan Technology and Management AG and Alcan Airex AG, Linklaters LLP being the overall lead counsel. The team was led by Andreas Rötheli (M&A) and included Cécile Berger, Marie Berney and Guillaume Barazzone.
