Sale of the Frédérique Constant group to Citizen Watch

On 26 May 2016, the founders of Frédérique Constant brand entered into an agreement with Citizen Watch group to sell the Frédérique Constant group.

Aletta and Peter Stas found in Citizen Watch the right partner to ensure the durability of the company beyond themselves. With the current management staying in place, the Swiss-Japanese collaboration will benefit from the combination of the Swiss high quality in design and manufacturing and the Japanese innovative technologies. This acquisition will also allow Citizen Watch group to complete its multi-brand strategy by extending its brands portfolio to Swiss brands products and Accessible Luxury watches.

The Frédérique Constant group was founded by Aletta and Peter Stas in 1988 and is involved in all stages of watch production, from initial design to in-house manufacture calibers and quality control. The group includes the brands Frédérique Constant, Alpina, and Ateliers DeMonaco.

Lenz & Staehelin advised Aletta and Peter Stas in this transaction. Led by partner Andreas Rötheli (Corporate and M&A), the team included partner Jean-Blaise Eckert (Tax), as well as associates Mona Stephenson (Corporate and M&A) and Floran Ponce (Tax).
